Our theme will be Losing My Religion based on James 1:27.  It is a call for us to put aside a religion devoid of compassion and service to the least in our communities.  We cannot settle for a personalized religion dealing solely with one’s personal sins and destination after death.  We seek to rediscover that God not only saved us but He also has called us to proclaim together the realities of his Kingdom through acts of justice and compassion.

We are very fortunate to have as our guest preacher Pastor Eugene Cho, founder and lead pastor of Quest Church in Seattle, WA. Pastor Cho is a creative church planter committed to preaching Jesus Christ according to His calling to minister to “the least of these.”  As a Korean American who understands the joys and travails of immigrant culture, Pastor Cho is someone we believe will inspire and challenge all who attend in very relevant, practical ways.  Along with the fascinating and hands-on seminars, exciting fellowship and worship opportunities, the 2010 convocation promises to build up, encourage and call forth our TG community to dream ever bigger and serve ever more diligently in building up English Ministries and serving our communities to the glory of our Risen Lord Jesus Christ!

Also, in partnership with Children’s Ministry Initiative and College Initiative, we are excited to invite all leaders serving in Children’s Ministry or with College students to attend our Pre-Conference event on August 2-4 at Valley KUMC where you will receive practical tools to better your ministry in your respective areas.  The guest speaker for our Pre-Conference is James Choung, national director for InterVarsity Asian American Ministries.  A Korean American born in Chicago, James has a rich experience in ministry and a new way of sharing the Gospel that we’re confident will enrich your lives.

God has blessed us with great speakers and seminar presenters, a skilled and Spirit filled worship team … all we’re missing is you.  We urge you to make the time to come, seek God’s heart together, and renew a movement to strengthen and raise up a people for God’s purpose.  Join us in Southern California and be a part of the TG movement!

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Eugene Cho is the co-founder (w/ his wife) and executive director of One Day’s Wages – an international grassroots movement dedicated to ending extreme global poverty.  He is also the founding & lead pastor of Quest Church and the founder & executive director of Q Cafe – a non-profit community cafe and music venue in Seattle. Born in Korea, he immigrated to the U.S. at age six and grew up in San Francisco. He studied Psychology and Theater at UC Davis and received his Masters at Princeton Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Minhee, have been married for 13 years and have three kids. In the truest sense, Eugene is lost, wicked, and depraved but redeemed by the grace and beauty of God. Blessed by revelation and compelled to respond as a herald of creation, incarnation, and resurrection and an advocate for issues of mercy, justice, and compassion.  He hasn’t published squat and is not a very highly sought out speaker but finds joy in knowing that he’s still pursued by his wife and three children.  You can learn more about Pastor Eugene's story through the following resources: New York Times article; his family's endeavor in the Seattle Times; Outreach Magazine; Portrait in the Seattle Times; Calling and Faith Story | You can keep up with Pastor Eugene through his Blog, Facebook, or Twitter.

James Choung was born to Korean immigrants in the heart of Lincoln Park in downtown Chicago, moving to Seattle at the age of five. He is a graduate of MIT (BS, Management Science), Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (MDiv) and Fuller Theological Seminary (DMin, Postmodern Leadership Development).  He helped plant and then pastor Cambridge Community Fellowship Church, an urban, multi-ethnic church with a value for social justice. He later was appointed intern pastor over international youth, college students, and expats in the English-speaking ministries of Onnuri Community Church in Seoul, Korea, and even sang and played acoustic & Spanish guitar for the Urbana Missions Conference 2003, cutting a CD. He currently serves as national director for InterVarsity’s Asian American Ministries, connecting with 168 staff and 4,646 students throughout the country. He’s the author of True Story: A Christianity Worth Believing In and Based on a True Story published by InterVarsity Press, sits on Christianity Today’s advisory panel for Leading Outreach, and is invited to speak on campuses, churches and conferences throughout the country. He worships at Catalyst lives on the Westside with his sons, Isaiah and Nathan, and his wonderful wife, Jinhee, whose smile reminds him every day that he’s the lucky one.
